Dive Control Specialist (Five (5) Weeks)

The Dive Control Specialist Course is the first step in making diving your career. You will have the opportunity to assist our Professional Reef Team with entry-level students both in the classroom and pool as well as in open water. You will learn, dive leadership skills, advanced navigation, boat diving operations and management, equipment service, people management and a lot more that will help you become a qualified professional dive leader.

At Cairns Dive Centre we conduct our "Divecon" program to a high and strict standard. We pride ourselves in producing professional Dive Leaders of the highest quality ensuring the very best opportunity for future employment within the dive industry worldwide.

After the five (5) week program you will not only become a Dive Control Specialist, you will also be a qualified Assistant Instructor, able to teach and certify the SSI snorkeling program, teach scuba skills updates and more.

You will receive ten (10) days of training with one of our very experienced Reef Team Dive Control Specialist Instructors. Here you will cover a number of topics including skill presentations, theory and personal development.  Your ten (10) days includes a three (3) day liveaboard trip on which you focus on developing your dive leading skills.

As a Divecon candidate you will also assist our Reef Team Instructors in conducting three (3) separate Open Water courses over a three (3) week period. During this time, not only will all other requisite assignments be assesed and completed but the candidate will also be assisting with the conduct of Adventure Diver, Advanced Adventure and Specialty diving courses together with the guidance and orientation of certified divers to the dive sites that we visit.

On each of these weeks, the candidate will spend two (2) days at our Training Facility then three (3) days out on the Great Barrier Reef on our live aboard vessel M.V. Kangaroo Explorer followed by two (2) days study. Each three (3) day stay on the M.V. Kangaroo Explorer will give the Divecon candidate up to ten (10) dives.

With this advantage, Divecon candidates can log a possible further thirty (30) dives and we guarantee that you will also have a very broad and in-depth working knowledge of what life within the Tourism/Dive Industry entails.
