SunKist - Day Trips

Q. Can I get a return bus pick up?
A.No, unfortunately we do not provide any bus transfers for our day trip. .

Q. How long does it take to get to the reef?
A. Sunkist check in time is 7am with a 7.30am departure, you can expect to be at the outer reef within 2 hours, note that the vessel may call past Fitzroy Island.

Q. What time does the boat get back in Cairns?
A. Between 4pm and 5pm.

Q. Do I need to be certified to do an introductory dive?
A. No.

Q. How deep will I go during the introductory dive.
A. No deeper than 10 metres.

Q. Is the dive gear for introductory and certified diving and/or snorkel gear included in the price?
A. Yes.

Q. Is it a different price if I bring my own gear?
A. No.

Q. Do you have DIN or Yoke tanks on board?
A. We have both.

Q. Is lunch included and what do I need to bring?
A. Yes lunch is included, bring your swimmers, a towel and sunblock.

Q. Can my friend join when I am doing a course?
A. Your friend can join the trip, but can only dive with you after you complete the course.

Q. Are there meals for vegetarians and other?
A. Yes, but no Halal.

Q. Does the price include one or two dives?
A. The listed price is for one dive, you can book and pay onboard if you wish to do a second dive, either introductory or certified.

Q. I am traveling alone and will need a buddy to dive with, what can I do?
A. We will buddy you with another diver on the same trip.

Q. Are you a PADI centre?
A. Yes we are a PADI 5 Star IDC centre.

Q. How long do I need to wait to fly after diving?
A. 12 hours after a single dive, or 24 hours after multiple repetitive dives.

Q. Do you offer Nitrox?
A. Nitrox is not available on our trips.

Q. Do you have prescription masks?
A. Yes, they are in the shop, best to come in and select the best one for you.

Q. Are Dive Guides included?
A. No, but you can request a guide for AUD15 per dive person.

Fitzroy Island - Day and Overnight Packages

Q. What days do you go to Fitzroy Island?
A. Every day, note that you are transferred to Fitzroy Island via our day boat called Sunkist.

Q. Can I get a return bus pick up?
A. No, we do not provide bus transfers for any of our day trips.

Q. How long does it take to get to Fitzroy Islandf?
A. We would like you to check in at 7:00 am on MV Sunkist (which is located at the end of E Jetty at the Marlin Marina.) We depart at 7:30 am and arrive at Fitzroy Island about 8:30 am.

Q. What time does the boat get back to Cairns?
A. Between 4pm and 5pm (on the day of your return).

Q. What time do I catch the boat back to Cairns?
A. Please be at the end of Fitzroy Island Jetty by 3:15 to meet Sunkist when it comes in.

Q. Can I organise an introductory dive or a certified dive on Fitzroy Island. 
A. Yes, please see our staff at our Fitzroy Island Dive Centre located within the Fitzroy Island Resort.

Q. Do I need to be certified to do an introductory dive?
A. No.

Q. How deep will I go during the introductory dive?
A. No deeper than 10 metres.

Q. Is the dive gear for introductory and certified diving and/or snorkel gear included in the price?
A. Yes for the Introductory dive and for the certified diver. 

Q. Can my friend join when I am doing a course?
A. Your friend can join the trip, but can only dive with you after you complete the course. 

Q. I am traveling alone and will need a buddy to do a certified dive with, what can I do?
A. We will buddy you with another diver. 

Q. What other equipment do you have for hire?
A. Snorkel equipment hire, Stand up paddle board hire and Sea kayak hire.

Q. Do you have a glass bottom boat tour?
A. Yes, twice per day.  The 10 am tour is a wet tour (you can go snorkeling or diving from the boat) or the 3 pm tour is a dry tour only.

Q. Are meals included while I am on Fitzroy Island?
A. No meals are included. If you are staying overnight in the Bungalow you can bring a small esky only with your food.  The Bungalows have a Weber BBQ, a microwave, toaster and kettle.  No alcohol allowed please.

Q. What do I need to bring for a day trip?
A. Bring your swimmers, a towel, and sunblock and certification card if you are going to dive.

Q. What do I bring extra for an overnight in the Bungalow?
A. Jumper for cool nights, toiletries, a change of clothes and food to eat in your self contained bungalow.  (Small Esky only please.) 

Q. Does the Resort have a restaurant?
A. Yes, the resort has a restaurant, there is also a cafe called Foxy's, and a small general store that sells basic food supplies.  You can bring your own food to the island as long as it is in a small esky only and no alcohol please as the Resort is licenced.

Q. Are towels and bedding included in the Butterfly Bungalow?
A. Bedding and towels are provided but we suggest you bring your own towel for the beach.

Q.What is the bedding configuration for the share Bungalows?
A. There are two rooms, twin beds in one room, bunk beds in the other room.  You may be sharing with people you do not know, much like a backpacker hostel.

Q. What facilities are in the 3 star Butterfly Bungalow?
A. The Bungalows are 4 share accommodation, with an internal bathroom,  an internal food preparation area with a mini bar fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle.  There is an outdoor deck with table, chairs, large esky and a Weber BBQ.  There is a sofa and a TV inside.

Q. What time is check in time? Check out time?
A. Check in is at 2 pm.  Check out is by 10 am.
