MV Reefkist runs the Island Diver day trips and they depart daily and visit two separate dive sites at the outer Great Barrier Reef, which is one of the most popular reef trips in Cairns. Travelling at 20 knots, our speedy catamaran, with a comfortable 50 passengers, will take you to some of the most pristine locations on the reef. Your first stop will be at the stunning Briggs Reef, a mooring exclusive to Cairns Dive Centre. This stunning 90 hectare round reef system is a Planar Reef, with a centre sandy feature that we like to call "The Fish Bowl". From here, the next system we journey to is the beautiful reefs and soft sands of Sudbury Cay. While the reef here is truly breathtaking, the cay itself is only the size of a cricket pitch!
Our reef systems are teeming with life, ranging from sea turtles to manta rays, colourful corals and plenty of giant clams. Search for tiny and beautiful creatures playing amongst the coral and anemone, all while diving and snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of the reef. The reef system features a shallow cay facing the centre, surrounded by many different types of corals just 3-5 metres deep. Snorkel above a colourful field of stunning plate, brain and elephant ear corals filled with hundreds of different and intricate types of fish. You may even get to meet the resident Maori Wrasse "Wally" - a large, inquisitive and friendly sea creature that welcomes everybody to his home. Further immerse yourself in the wonders of the reef by going for a dive off the drop off, where you can discover even more beautiful creatures at depths of 20-30 metres.
Lunch is served between Briggs Reef and Sudbury Cay with a cold buffet selection of meats, salads and tropical fruits. Spaces are limited, so we strongly advise to book now to avoid missing out!
